“The Chelsey’s?! You’ve got to be shitting me!” Taylor exclaimed furiously pulling out a cigarette from the half empty pack in his pocket. He lit it and inhaled the smoke quickly.
“Taylor…” Isaac started attempting to stick up for Liz.
“No, have you seen some of the tabloid magazines lately?!” he continued completely ignoring Isaac. “One of the girls was recently accused of trying to run over her ex boyfriend in a BMW while another one just got out of rehab because she was pulled over for drunk driving and they found a crap ton of illegal drugs on her! What the fuck was Liz thinking putting them with us?!”
The opening band that Liz had selected for the brothers was one they had never given a thought about. The Chelsey’s were a group of misfit girls with a crazy fashion sense and bad attitudes. Their albums actually sold quite well and their fan base was extremely loyal. The only thing is the majority of their fans were either hardcore feminists or teenage boys. Regardless, the boys had a feeling of epic dread. This was the worst idea ever and there was nothing they could do about it.
Taylor flicked his cigarette on the hot pavement and stomped on it childishly.
“Calm down,” Isaac told Taylor as the three boys jumped into a cab to head back to their condo.
“He does have a point, Ike.” Zac agreed. “I mean do you even know what they do while they’re on tour?”
“What?” Taylor and Isaac asked simultaneously.
“I have no idea nor do I really want to know, but sadly to say, boys, we’re about to find out. It says on this paper she so randomly printed up that we leave for the first venue in one week.”
Taylor banged his head against the back of the seat in front of him to the point where it almost hurt. “This is so not good…”
“We just passed a church. Want to stop and say a little prayer?” Zac joked. “This is going to be one long ass tour!”
“You guys, look at the bright side of this,” Isaac chimed in reluctantly, “the Chelsey’s do have a different audience that we could potentially reach out to and who knows maybe they’ll turn out to be different than what all of those stupid magazines say about them.”
“Ha! Fuck that!” Taylor exclaimed as the brothers pulled up to their home.
He slammed the door to the cab and added, “And fuck Liz for ruining our careers!”
Zac and Isaac watched as Taylor walked up the driveway to where another car was parked. A very tall, voluptuous blonde with a gross fake, orange tan got out of the back and grinned at him as he led her to the door.
“I guess this means no practice tonight?” Zac shrugged nodding towards the pair.
Isaac chuckled and the they walked into their condo to begin packing for the tour.
The week seemed to fly by and not in a good way. The boys practiced as usual and prepared themselves for a full 3 month tour because they were professionals, not because they were looking forward to it. In fact, they had to drag themselves out of bed the morning they were to meet with the Chelsey’s and head out.
“Taylor,” Isaac shook his sleeping brother as he laid there, a pillow over his face. “Taylor. Taylor!”
“WHAT?!” he shouted in reply.
“Come on. Get up. I know this sucks, but let’s just make the best of it. We don’t go on this tour, we get fired. Now, let’s go.”
“Yes, dad!” Taylor mocked his older sibling and threw the pillow across the room. “Oh fuck me in the ass! Why do we have to go?!”
“Jesus, you’re such a baby!” Isaac rolled his eyes and walked out the door. “The cab will be here in 15 minutes.”
Taylor ripped his covers off his half naked body and stood up. He felt his head spin from the alcohol he drank the previous night to make him forget what he was about to get into. He threw on a tight pair of jeans and a t-shirt, but decided not to brush his knotted hair out. These girls meant nothing to him and he didn’t feel the need to impress them.
Sure their music wasn’t that bad for what they were producing and sure they had actually sold more albums than Hanson, but as far as Taylor was concerned he wasn’t going to give them the time of day.
“Well, you look like a sack of dog shit,” Zac smirked as Taylor walked into their living room to set his luggage down next to the door.
Taylor eyed his brother and frowned. “Yeah, blah, blah, blah. I’m not trying to look my best for them, but apparently you are…”
Zac had on a pair of dressier pants and a button- up shirt. He had rolled the sleeves up to his elbows due to the intense LA summer heat. He spun around as if to show off his attire.
“I always look good, bro. You know this,” Zac grinned as the cab pulled up the driveway. “Time to rock outta here. Isaac!”
Isaac ran down the hallway with a million suitcases and bags slung over his shoulders.
“Seriously guys, it’s just another tour with a dumb band we don’t even like!” Taylor complained as they stuffed their bags into the cab car’s trunk. “Why the hell are you bringing so much crap?”
“Come on, Tay, they may be one of the most crazy bands ever, but hey they’re girls!” Isaac smiled mischievously. “You of all people should get what I’m saying!”
Zac laughed in response as Taylor just rolled his eyes. The three of them hopped into the car and they drove to the record company’s parking lot where they were to meet up with Liz and the Chelsey’s.
As they pulled up, Liz was standing by two tour buses with a manila folder in hand. She had a giant smile on her face and brown sunglasses shading her eyes. There were a few roadies standing around the buses and the drivers were opening the bins underneath to start loading luggage. Almost immediately after the brothers pulled their suitcases out of the trunk, the crew began to repack it along with all of their equipment from the studio.
Everyone was so busy working that when the boys finally got a glimpse of the hot pink monstrosity before them, they couldn’t move.
“What the hell is that?!” Zac gasped in awe at the Chelsey’s tour bus.
“Oh dear God,” Taylor smacked himself in the face hoping that he was dreaming.
There loomed a massively colorful bus with hearts and skulls painted all over it next to their ordinary dark blue one.
“Yeah that isn’t going to attract unwanted attention,” Zac shook his head in disbelief.
Astounded, Taylor, Isaac, and Zac found themselves standing before an all too cheerful Liz. She had walked up to them without them even noticing.
“Good morning guys!” she said. “Here is the tour guide. Everything you need to know about every city, venue, and hotel is in here. Don’t lose it. Here, I’ll give it to Isaac for safe keeping.”
“Thanks.” He replied taking the manila folder from her.
Liz looked at them suddenly feeling guilty once again for the grief stricken looks on their faces. There’s no turning back now, she kept telling herself.
“I will meet up with you guys at almost every venue, but I will be flying separately.” She explained.
“Lucky you,” Taylor muttered under his breath. He tried hard not to glare at Liz, but couldn’t help it. He had no idea why she thought this whole thing was a good idea. They used to be best friends. What was going through her mind when she facilitated this plan to pair them with the most crazy band in the U.S.? Taylor would make it a point to grill her later. For now, he decided he was too tired to debate.
“The Chelsey’s should be here any minute. You guys have any questions for me?” she asked.
Taylor pulled out a cigarette and lit it.
“No,” Isaac spoke for them all. “Thanks again, Liz.”
She nodded and they stood there silently for a moment.
Out of nowhere, loud blaring music could be heard coming towards them. Its bass was so thick that the boys actually had to stop and turn around. They peered into the bright sunlight to see a shiny black limo speeding towards them.
Hanging out of the sunroof was a long, raven haired girl with big round sunglasses covering her face and a beer bottle in her hand. She yelled absurdly at people walking on the sidewalk as they drove by until the limo came to a halt in the parking lot.
“Better start counting your Hail Mary’s, Tay,” Zac snickered as they watched the side door open.
The first to get out was a tall, gorgeous female with chocolate brown skin. Her dark hair was in a Posh Spice bob and she was wearing a very revealing mini dress. She walked up to them in tiny stilettos and stopped. Her eyes were piercingly green and Taylor was mesmerized. Unfortunately, she grimaced at him when their gazes met and he was instantly turned off. Liz introduced her as Sapphire, the lead singer of the Chelsey’s, and she walked on not saying a word in response.
“Damn,” Taylor uttered quietly. “Bitchy much?”
The brothers turned back to the limo to see the black haired one sliding down the front wind shield and onto the hood. She threw the empty beer bottle to the ground and it shattered.
“What’s up?!” she shouted as they stared at the oddly dressed girl.
Her name was Faith and she had to pull up her jeans that practically fell off her hips they were so low cut. A silver studded belt lined the rim along with a shiny wallet chain. A tight vintage tank top lined her upper body and didn’t leave much to the imagination.
“Thanks, bro!” Faith said as she took the cigarette out of Taylor’s mouth and began smoking it.
She chuckled at the surprised look on his face.
“Hey, I’m Zac.”
“Why hellooo there, hottie Mchotterson!” She exclaimed drunkenly as the two walked together towards their tour buses.
“Wait for me you guys!” came another voice from the limo.
This one was shorter with long, golden hair almost down to her waist. She had a bronze tan that wasn’t fake and had her hands full of expensive looking leather bags. Her name was Blake, and of all the girls, she seemed to be the more quiet reserved one.
“Here, let me help.” Isaac rushed to her rescue taking some of the luggage from her.
Their eyes met and they smiled at one another.
“Great, you guys will have so much fun on the road!” Liz commented on seeing the guys interact with the girls.
“Yeah, right.”
Taylor groaned and followed everyone else to their buses so they could begin the never ending journey.
