Purpose:
The purpose of this challenge is to get writers back into the game or motivate them to continue writing through the spring and into the summer. The idea is to give writers unique, fun, and different types of ideas to inspire them. We wanted to make a challenge that will actually be challenging no matter what and to see and praise the results. The main goal is to get people to try something new- a new way of writing, a new way of thinking, a new type of writing they’ve never persued before.
Changes in 2010:
This season, there will be some changes to the rules. Renee and I think the changes will make the challenge more convenient to the participants. You will have three options this time which are listed below.
Option 1: Those who participated in last season’s Hanfic Genre Challenge, have the option to CONTINUE their story from last season if it is incomplete. We know how difficult it can be to have several stories in progress, so if you choose, you can use this challenge as an opportunity to finish or extend your HGC fic from the last challenge.
Option 2: Participants who completed their story from the last challenge can choose to write a sequel or continuation for their last HGC story.
Option 3: Previous participants or brand new participants may start a brand new story for the challenge. If you participated last season, you can choose to finish your old story, or start something new. New participants can snag a genre and start a brand new story.
Last year, we allowed 2 spots per category. Due to the fact we are allowing continuations of last season’s stories, we have decided to increase the participants per genre to three.
